Sarah English is a London-based accent and voice coach hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia. With 20 years of teaching experience in Canada, Sarah is now teaching in the UK at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and London Studio Centre. Her aim is for students to feel first and foremost that they are safe to be adventurous, as they strengthen their understanding of their voice. Through a deepening of accent and voice skills, her clients and students are given new opportunities to further inhabit their roles in theatre, film, television and voiceover.
With a focus on inclusive and accessible learning, and a background in childhood education, Sarah bring a sense of play and embodiment to voice and accent practices, always remembering that the actor’s intention lies at the heart of the work. As an actor herself, she understands the transformative power of voice work to the actor’s performance and process.
“Sarah is the best accent coach I've worked with. She breaks down an accent into comprehensive, manageable layers while incorporating not just sound differences but cadence, back story and acting process. Her unique experience as both a voice specialist and an actor makes her the ideal coach because she coaches the whole actor, not only the sounds that actor is making. In coaching sessions Sarah is encouraging, knowledgeable, funny - I can't recommend her enough.”

…Magpie?
Magpies are known for collecting the best bits of their surroundings- and that’s what Sarah has done as a coach. Taking inspiration from a variety of different approaches to accent training, she is able to cater the coaching to each individual learner’s needs.
Did you know that magpies can talk? They are one of the most vocally complex songbirds in the world! Known for their unique voice, magpies can mimic the songs, sounds and accents of others, and they are remarkable listeners. This is the goal of Magpie Accents and Voice- to hone, support, and celebrate these same qualities in our clients.
